What Does it Look Like to Work with a Career Coach?
If you’ve ever felt unfulfilled, lost, or discontent in your job or career, congratulations! You’re human.
And more than that, you’re like a lot of folks whom I work with as a Career Coach.
Maybe you feel like there’s something more out there for you, and you have no idea how to get it.
One of the things I get asked often is how a Career Coach actually works with you. How can I help you go from the ennui, frustration, and unhappiness you feel now and help you get to where you want to go?
Because I get asked so often, I thought I’d share how I help individuals find clarity, and direction and provide support no matter what career transition they’re navigating!
It Usually Starts with a Desire for More…
Your inner potential, the desire to do something else, or the craving to become more is like an itch. Once you know it’s there, you can’t ignore it and there’s no going back!
It often shows up first as:
A lack of passion or motivation for what you’re doing now
Ennui or lackluster perspective on where you are
Boredom and a feeling of untapped potential
Frustration, agitation, and even depression for some
Depending on who you are, it can also impact other areas of your life including your social, physical, and mental wellbeing.
We begin by starting where you are. We look at what you’re doing, what you’re feeling, and where you want to go from here.
I uncover and learn about what you’re good at, where your expertise and education lies, what you’ve been doing, and where you want to go from here.
This process can be extremely clarifying and I often use a combination of self and written assessments.
The goal is to dig deep and understand what it means for you to have a fulfilling career as well as discover any gaps in your skills or strengths.
Goal-Setting
For some, this can be the hardest part! It’s one thing to dream it or feel it, it’s another to write it down into clear, actionable goals that get you to your desired career shift. I help support you through this process and create strategic, intentional actions that are entirely unique to your journey.
Tools and Resources
Knowing where you are and where you want to be is half the battle. Then, it’s time to set the wheels in motion by applying for jobs, interviewing, filling in skills gaps, and more.
I provide you with tools and resources every step of the way including:
Resume and cover letter optimization that’s tailored to your career goals
Pathways to gaining qualifications and certifications
Interview preparation and coaching
Negotiation best practices and tactics
And more
Accountability and Ongoing Emotional Support
Looking for a new job can be challenging and discouraging. My clients find that the accountability and encouragement I provide are key to staying on track with deadlines and goals and navigating the emotional valleys. It’s also a learning process, and I’ll help you assess, monitor, and adjust as needed to make sure you’re navigating setbacks as smoothly as possible.
The Confidence to Continue
As a Career Coach, I do more than just help with resumes, applications, job offers, and salary negotiations! Though that’s a huge piece of it, the confidence you’ll build along the way is going to help you for years to come. Insecurities, fears, and frustrations often come up and I offer a confidential, supportive, and safe place to discuss these while helping you overcome them and own your strengths and skills!
