Transitioning From Corporate

Confession time. I’m not ready to let go of corporate.

I recently retired from my long-term career at the University of Philadelphia and moved full-time into self-employment. A move I was and am so excited about.

I thought I would easily put my old role behind me but it turns out my work has been built in as part of my identity.

At first, I didn’t notice that I was struggling... I just thought I had a messy closet.

All my corporate clothes have been sort of overpowering my closet for a good portion of my adult life and I told myself that I would clear out my old boring work clothes when I was done.

I blamed my dog, Olive, for my lack of enthusiasm with the closet cleanout because often when I’m decluttering she tends to eat the items.

The truth is I just am not ready to part with my old life.

By getting rid of my corporate clothes I’m officially moving into a new life.

But I also want that space back in my closet.

My solution: move things out of my closet in a tote but still keep them for a period of time until I’m really ready.
